The standardized systems recovered a mean of 81.6 percent of platelets, against a mean of 10.65 percent for the routine centrifuge, and produced platelet increases of 3.7 and 3.2 times over baseline.

2. Preparation kits

Kits are the per procedure supply. The Juventix Medical PRP Kit comes in 12 mL and 15 mL sizes, each supplied as a single kit containing two preparation tubes.

Juventix describes the Medical kit line as progen free, triple sterilized, and single spin in under 10 minutes, with a two year shelf life and no refrigeration required, and states that the kits exclude over 99 percent of red blood cells. Those are the manufacturer’s figures, and the storage conditions in the kit’s instructions for use are the ones to follow in your own supply room.

Kits also differ in how much of the patient’s white cell fraction they carry through to the final volume, which is the difference between a leukocyte poor PRP and a leukocyte rich preparation. How to check a clearance claim before you order

Regulatory status

Juventix states that its Medical PRP Kit line is 510(k) cleared. The manufacturer describes the clearance in three parts: the kits are cleared for the preparation of platelet rich plasma at the point of care; the PRP may be mixed with bone graft material in applicable procedures; and all other applications are off-label and not recommended or endorsed by the manufacturer. Clinical use decisions rest with the treating provider.

This statement applies to the Medical PRP Kit line only. The Hair Growth kit, the Facial Bio-Filler HA-PRP kit, the tubes and the centrifuges carry no clearance claim of their own.
